Devastating the Obvious

Wednesday... Blessed Wednesday... Only another half day of work left after today before I can finally rest. These long hours are rough, especially now that I can feel a really nasty cold coming on. If I had time to rest, my system could easily fight it off, but since I'm stuck here in the office until 10:00 tonight, I know it's going to blossom into one of those colds that works it's way from the sinuses down to your chest, and then just sits there making you miserable until you can fight it off with strong ginger tea and lots of rest. I really hope I'm better before the KC game this weekend. There'll be enough going on without me sniffling and sneezing through the whole game.

In other news, the trip down to Regina was a bit of a bust. The hedgehog I'd been hoping to get was not well socialized at all, even though his owner had assured me he was a friendly little guy. He spent the entire time in a ball, hissing and popping his quills out at me. When I finally managed to calm him down by stroking his quills, he bit me and then rolled back into a ball, trapping my finger in a nest of quills while he continued to chomp on it. It took me a few mintues to figure out how to get my finger back without hurting him or losing a nice chunk of my pinkie. (Actually, it wasn't all that bad. Their jaws aren't strong enough to really rend or tear, since they are primarily insectivores, but it was enough to break the skin and tear away a bit of my cuticle.) I'm going to continue searching for hedgehog breeders, since I think getting a young hoglet that I can train myself will be a much better option.

It wasn't all bad, though. I got to visit with my mom, since I knew I wouldn't be able to make it down for her birthday. We went out shopping, which was a special treat for her because she loves to dress me in clothes that I would never dream of wearing. Not that she has bad taste, mind you. Quite the opposite. It's just that her tastes and mine are at such odds. She's quite up to date on the latest fashions and has a knack for working her own flair into any outfit, where as I'm solidly a jeans and a t-shirt kind of gal. I don't like my clothes to be fussy. (This rule, of course, does not apply to any characters that I play. Their clothes are costumes, and if I'm playing a fussy character, darn rights their clothes are going to be fussy! I got a new belt for Mahalia that is all kinds of fussy.) Anyway, she had a great time getting me to try things on for her amusement, (I suffered through the pink fuzzy thing with as much dignity as I could muster, which she thought was hilarious) and we had some really great little dainties at a coffee shop afterwards.

Mom and I also went out for dinner with the Myhre's to celebrate Layne finishing his thesis. There's this amazing place in Moose Jaw that serves some of the best Thai food I've ever tasted. (Though, the pad thai Layne makes does rival it...) We all met up there for a wonderful dinner, and even Layne's dad tried the food, though he did grumble that there wasn't enough meat. (I can only think of one dish that -didn't- have meat in it...) They have this roasted coconut appetizer that I'm still craving. Yum...

Anyway, back to work with me. They've just thrown yet another last-minute task at me that needs to be finished within the hour, and if they weren't still bickering over the exact shot numbers, I wouldn't even have time to write this.
